In one of my remote controls I need to go very close to the car before the remote works so I assume this is because the battery is nearly flat. 2001 A4.
What I was wondering was if I replace the battery do I then then need it reprogrammed and does this mean taking it to the dealer?

replacement of the battery may required a re-sync to the central locking, but as far as the immobiliser is concerned, you will not have a problem

re-syncing is easily done via vagcom or a manual method well documented on the forum.
