I have a 1993 VW golf estate diesel and have had years of trouble free motoring. Recently the immobilisers has been taking upto 10-15 minutes to disarm and I am not sure why this could be happening. Does anyone know if the conlog system takes batteries (which could be failing?). I am not sure if it is the fob that needs batteries or the if it is a part fitted to the car. Can Anyone help?

Is this a remote key fob alarm or just a plug in key immobiliser?

It's a plug in key immobiliser. Kind of oblong thing with 3 little connection points on it.

That is an aftermarket dealer fit part and probably as old as the car, the key is passive and powered from the car and if they go wrong you will have to find someone who has spares. I would suggest you had a new CAT2 immobiliser fitted.
