Is There Someone Out There Who Can Help Please. My Mk4 Polo 1995 1.6 Is Fantastic And I Love Her. But As Of Late She Has Be Giving Me A Bit Of Greff. Ever Since It Has Been Cold. She Has No Problem Starting But Will Cut Out When Stopping At A Junction To Me Because The Revs Are Dropping To Low. And Then When The Engin Is Hot It Get Boggie And Drives Like A 1.1 Not A 1.6 Almost Like It Is Only Firing On 3. Iv Checked And Replaced All The Plugs Distribotor Cap Leads. Could It Be Something To Do With The Choke. Im Told It Its Automatic But Cant Seem To Find Any Info On It Anywere Can Anyone Help Please.

It has no choke as such as it is a multipoint fuel injection engine. What it does have is a coolant temperature sensor that tells the engine computer the temperature of the engine which then alters the way it controls the engine to compensate for different temperatures. You could have a faulty coolant temperature sensor and also a dirty throttle body. This will need to be cleaned out carefully after being removed from the car and reset using a computer diagnostic system such as VAG-COM which you will see mentioned regularly. I suggest you find a decent local garage with fault code reading equipment and ask them about throttle body cleaning and readaptation. If the "readaptation" bit is met with a blank look then walk away.
