Audi A4 Display screen is really dim – 16-07-2007,12:24 AM

I just purchased an 1998.5 A4 and the display screen is barely readable. If it's cooler outside I can see it a little better. Does anyone know if this is a problem that could be fixed at home, or is it something I have to take it in for. And how much does it cost?
