The central locking pump and courtesy lights on my 1993 audi 80 2.8E Quattro recently stopped working at exactly the same time. The lights work if you switch them on manually. but not off any of the doors. Central locking stopped working completely, no sound from the pump. I am guessing the 2 faults are linked. Can anybody suggest where I should start looking? Thanks in advance.

You will need a wiring diagram to check the feeds and earths to the pump.If there ok chances are its the pump. Also check fuse box for fuse protecting locking.

So are the courtesy lights linked to the pump?

I could be too late to offer any useful help ,since you asked about this in November.
However, on my 80 (93 mod) central locking sometimes played up and rear fog lights and rev.
lights misbehaved. I think the c l pump is in the boot as is the boot lamp (obviously).
I discovered that the wiring to the facilities in the boot were shorting out to each other because the wiring had broken down at the point where there is a tight bend in the wiring near the hinge for the boot lid, between the points where it is clamped to the hinge plates.
This, for me is the second time such a fault has happened on a '93 80. Regards dos.
