    Hi,

This is my first post so I apologise if its in the wrong section, or has been addressed before.

I've been playing with Vag-Com and found a problem with the instruments, but unfortunately the message doesn't mean much to me (see below).

    Address 17: Instruments
    Controller: 8E0 920 950 C
    Component: KOMBI+WEGFAHRS. RB4 D11
    Coding: 00400

    1 Fault Found:
    01304 - Unknown Error Code
    49-00 - Unknown Error Elaboration

I've cleared the code (there were a few others under Central Conv. but these haven't re-appeared) and re-tested and the fault re-occurs. However, I've not seen any problems show up on the dash-board to indicate a problem.

So was wondering if anyone can decipher it for me.

    Cheers,

    Paul.

Its something to do with your radio. Does everything work ok?

Its worth checking the connections to the radio and the coding for it. If you have a multi function steering wheel, it needs to be coded accordingly etc.

    Longman,

    Thanks for the quick reply.

It being a problem with the radio makes sense as the previous owner fitted an aftermarket headunit, and completely butchered the cabling (I wouldn't have thought any errors related to this would appear under instrumentation - I need to read the manuals fully in future I suppose). I've since re-done the wiring and put another unit back in but I it seems I may have missed something.

    Thanks again for your help,

    Paul.

Well, thats why I mentioned about the multi function steering wheel really, as that would probably be part of the Instruments but plugged into the Radio.

Can you access the radio controller with VAG-COM? If not, the whole thing, unless you have a Symphony or Bose unit, could be under the Instruments controller anyway.

Longman, Sorry missed the bit about the steering wheel (btw the car hasn't got any steering wheel controls). As soon as you mentioned the radio the obvious dawned on me with the previous state of the cabling. Its strange because the error didn't appear when I got the car and I changed the cabling over though. A lot of cables such as the amplifier 12v switch and the powered aerial were floating around in mid air before I intervened. Paul.

It sounds like thats where the error is then Paul.

Do you get any radio info up in the instrument cluster on your car or is it all on the unit? Still puzzeled, without looking for myself, as to why its not on the radio controller.... Unless there isn't one and its all under instruments?

    Hope you get it sorted.

    Rob

Longman, Nothing comes up at all on the dash related to the radio. Not overly concerned now I know what it is, its something I can live with. Had visions though of spending lots of cash replacing instrument panels which has now gladly been avoided. Thanks again for your help. Paul.

Pretty amusing thing, I double checked with old versions of VAG-COM and even Beta 0.78 (from July 2001) covers that code. So I'm really wondering what version you are using or where you got it from.

You may want to download the latest version compatible to your interface (either 311 or 409) from our website, they will show you the code in question.

Its Release 409.1 shareware (Release4091us.exe) which I'm using for the testing. I'm actually a Software Engineer by profession so it is certainly not in my interest / would be highly hypocritical of me to use any dodgy/cracked versions (though unfortunately I'm sure they must exist).

Incidentally after your comment I've done a re-install and it now shows correctly, so something must have been missing / damaged on the initial install.

Vag-com is a very useful bit of software and I'm currently considering purchasing the full version if I decide to keep the car after it's warranty period is up.

    Paul.
