Power Steering noise

I get a noise when the car is cold (moans and groans) an dthen a loud humming noise. It is worse when I turn the steering wheel. I have been advised to change the power steering fluid for 11S. Does anyone have any further details on how to do this without getting any air leaks?

Did you ever find the cause of this problem? I have a 2003 A4 and I get the same noise, especially when the car is cold.

Hello Sajjad

I topped up my steering fluid (not with 11s)and the noise went away and has not returned. I bought the fluid from GSF and it cost about £7. It didn't look like I needed to top it up when I looked and I only put in about a tablespoon's worth but it did the trick. I was meaning to change the fluid but haven't got round to it. It is a cheap and quick and dead simple thing to try first.

I had exactly the same problem and I got some mineral based fluid from my mate at the car spares shop and job done
