    Hi,

I have a 1997 Passat SE Tdi with the standard Beta / Gamma head unit in place. I notice some of these models have a multi-cd changer in the boot. I have the gap in the boot for the Cd changer to go, and a power outlet just to the side of it, but am having trouble sourcing the particular CD changer for the car.

Does anyone know what the part number / description is for the CD changer as all i can find are CD changers for the later (2000 onwards i think) passats, that had the CD player in the dash, or even if it is possible to wire another CD changer up (maybe from the glove box etc..) to the standard 1997 model Beta / Gamma head unit?

    Cheers

    Simon B

Ask around some local VW dealers saying that you are interested in buying one from them. They should be able to tell you the model/part number for it. Then ignore their price and look on ebay etc...

Also check out a specialist car audio shop, you can get other cd changers to work on that head unit with a different wire which could then open up your choices. Plenty going on ebay, just take care that all the bits including the CD magazine are included. Failing that if you have an Ipod or MP3 player I can recommend a good interface cable for around £60. Recently bought one myself and works a treat. Andy

Thanks for the replies. I have managed to get hold of one and should take delivery this week.

I'll post again with the model number when i get it, in case someone else is after one in the future.

All i have to do now is find out how to run the cable from the unit to the boot....
