1997 jetta starting problem

I have a 1997 Jetta gt that will not start. I was driving one day and it died. I found out that it was getting fuel but it did not have spark. It turns over but will not start. So i replaced the cap and rotor, ignition coil, speed sensor, andspark plugs and wires. but it still will not start

What year and what engine code, remember that we in the UK did not get the Jetta 3 (Vento) so we need to know a little more.

The code that tells us what the engine is, such as ABA or at least tells us the capacity, we aren’t psychic!
