I've just had a parrot 3200SL installed at Halfords, I know I know, I should know better but it seemed like a good deal at the time!!

Anyway, I now have an airbag warning which their "expert" technicians have told me means that I can either take it to a VW dealer to reset or leave with them and they will disconnect the battery for 30 mins to reset.

I am loathe to let the muppets from Halfords back on it but also do not want to be charged by the dealer, has anybody else had a similar experience, or know a cure?

Same thing happened to me when the idiot who fitted my Parrot (rubbish system by the way - never works right) went and disconnected the passenger airbag warning indicator in the radio surround. I had to pay the main ******* about £85 to reset the airbag fault this triggered. We sent the bill to the Parrot fitter.

I understand that if you do disconnect this indicator, you're supposed to do it with the ignition off. Dunno if this would make any difference.

Find a local independent VW specialist who will happily reset the airbag warning for you for less than half the price. You're better off letting an expert do this than allowing the bodgers at ********* near your car.

I am led to believe that if you disconnect the airbag warning light with the ignition off, then turn on the ignition you will get the warning that has to be rest.

I also know that you are safe to disconnect the light, provided you reconnect it without turning the ignition on.

I also read in another thread that one lucky chap had his VW garage reset his device for free, not the £85 that is quoted.

I also know that having paid for a service to have the Parrot fitted that Halfords should foot any bill or put the matter right.

Disconnecting the battery does not clear the warning, surprise, surprise!!!!!!!!

Only alternative is to take to VW dealer to be reset, however Halfords have agreed to pay for this so will get booked in ASAP and investigate the wiring job at the same time.

Will let you know what other damage VW find but I would not recommend Halfords to anybody.

That may well have been me in this thread about removing the stereo
    https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...rcd300+removal

And I'm sure the opinions above are correct in guessing what Halfords have done. They've fitted the Parrot and then gone to test it before putting the dash back together, which is exactly what I did when fitting an MP3 auxillary lead.

Seeing as Halfords are paying the bill then this may not be too important to you but for anyone else who's made this mistake this is how I got my light reset for free.

I phoned up the VW dealer and explained to the person on the phone what I'd done, basically going over the top with what an idiot I'd been and how now I know what I've done, I won't do it again. I then explained that seeing as the fault had been caused by me, then there was no need to read any error codes or investigate why the light had come on, all they had to do was turn off the light.

I then asked if it would be possible to call down during a quiet moment and have the light reset. I made no mention of any cost and even though I expected I may have to pay, I never raised the subject even while at the garage. I was told to call in at about 2 that afternoon and one of the junior members of staff would come out and reset things for me. As soon as he'd plugged in the computer out in the car park I was then a bit cheeky and asked him to alter a few other settings, thanked him for his time and drove off.

Now whether that approach will work for anyone else, I can't say but for a saving of £85 it's got to be worth a try.

    Cheers
    Iain

Have now had system reset by main dealer, not only had the muppets at Halfords powered up with the airbag connector unplugged, they never actually reconnected it either. Anyway £50 later and its all working properly.

The Parrot system seems really good by the way, just dont get Halfords to fit one!!

    Thanks for all the advice

The adapter used was labelled as a BMW02TEL, I was worried they had ordered the wrong part, but this was just about the only bit they did get right!!

i drive a 57 passat estate - the 140ps model - same airbag lamp after having parrot fitted.
not only did the fitter **** up the airbag, he also broke the radio surround & the right-hand drawer (next to haz lights)

    obviously i am miffed.

is easy to say pop into a dealer & get it reset, but when you're self employed it's not an easy option as it costs me dearly :/

does anyone else have issues with the parrot dropping calls even with a full signal>>
or aurally abusing those on the receiving end? - 1 guy said it sounded like fireworks going off in the car followed by horrendous screeching sounds - i was parked at the time lol.

is great when it works but very unreliable.

saying that i prefer it to wearing those ridiculous earpieces that ppl still use

nice forum btw - 1st post!

As I wrote above, my Parrot is absolute rubbish; it only works when it feels like it. It makes horrible loud pops and bangs. I wish I had gone for the VW optional Bluetooth.
