I have a 1999 1.6 Golf SE which has remote central locking which has always been a bit fiddly as the passenger front door sometimes unlocks when it should be locking.

Also the lights do not flash and the alarm arm first time every time.

Last night the remote stopped working completely but the central lockin still works with the key in the door and via the button inside the car.

Also when I open the passenger door the interior light and red door light does not come on. Could this be related to the locking problem.

I am sure that the key does not need recoding as i have two spares none of which work remotely.

I have read various threads on this site but do not fully undestand what I need to check first.

Also I have read that if the floor in the VW passat gets wet this can effect the central locking. Is this the same for the golf as mine got soaked recently. It is now dry but i never lifted the carpet.

    Any help greatly apprreciated

    Many Thanks

Have the convenience system scanned for fault codes, print the codes off and then clear the codes. Operate the system again and re read the codes and any that come back will be relevant to your problem. It is very rare for the convenience unit on a Golf to get wet due to its location up under the dash but water can leak from above the unit via a plastic electrical wiring outlet box which can leak around its base seal.

i have the exact same car, the problem i have is that when i open the car the back passenger side door unlocks itlself, and when i try to look it from the controls in the drivers door it pops back up so i have to do it manualy. but the other thing i have noticed is that some times it works 1st time and some times not? and the light in the passanger door comes on now and again?

ive been stuck on this problem for a while so now i jus press the button twice and unlock all the doors.

i dnt know is this is a good option but i was going to get my whole central locking replaced, but gettin a clifford alarm system? good idea? im not 100 sure?

oh and a happy xmas to you all
