    Hi,

I was doing 70 on the motorway when a thud was heard but the car was still going, when I slowed down at the junction, almost nothing, no power when starting off again.

Its like 1st gear has disappeared, now when you pull off you rev the engine, a while later a thud and the car slowly pulls off.

Also when selecting other gears it occasionally thuds into them and then starts moving including REVERSE.

The gear indicators on the dashboard are all inverted and all are hightlighted. I've tried a ECU reset by dis-connecting the battery for 5 minutes but the fault comes back on.

Anybody got any ideas? Is my Gearbox caput? or is it the ECU? or something else(Tiptronic brain, etc)?

I've been looking around for a replacement gearbox but at £400 for a S/H plus fitting I want to be sure before paying up.

    Thanks

    Paul

    Hi,

    The code is down as:

    X2A BON COV GOF H6S JOR M3L Q2J

It is the 115bhp PD Model if that helps.

I think its just the Auto not the CVT as CVT is a new thing I thought.

    Thanks

    Hi,

    Found some more info:

    GS EU3 AG5 ATJ

This definitely relates to the gearbox.

    Thanks

If you are hearing a thud than it "sounds" like a mechanical problem rather than an ECU.
Have you put the car on diagnostics to check for error logs?

If I was you I wouldnt drive the car any more until the problem is diagnosed. If you are hearing thuds there may be physical damage.

    Hi,

I was under the impression that the tiptronic gearbox was under the control of the ECU.

When the ECU was reset it worked properly for about a minute before the fault re-occured.

When you put it into 2,3,4th or Reverse it seems to work just not in Drive, even though now its doing the same for 2 as well. Takes a while to kick in put eventually starts to move.

I did get it delivered back home instead of driving it at £100 by the AA so not to cause more damage.

    Thanks

    Hi,
You should have asked the AA to do a diagnostics check on it. Maybe the ECU would've shown faults. Anyways, if you're saying the car worked find after a cold reset there may be a chance there is a fault with the ECU. Get it diagnosed.

ATJ is the engine code, the box will be an ERY. I would suggest an oil and pan filter change first, a new VAG box is just under £2000.
