I have a VW Golf MK4 TDI (90BHP) and just before the X-mass i want to give myself a present by buying a second hand GT TDI engine 150BHP and the engine code is BKD i guess its coming from MARK 5. Just want to know if garages will be able to do a replacement? If any one had any experience in that please let me know because I'm thinking of buying that engine tomorrow so it will arrive before the X-mass. Thanks in advance

    It is possible.

Do you know what the source car is?

Reason being, you'll need the as well as the ecu, loom, engine and gearbox, the instrument cluster which houses the imobiliser.

Obviously you will need a cluster that will fit a MK4.

    As above...

If i was you.... I would look at getting a re-mapp by CHIPPED UK, see the Chipped UK section AND Chip n Spin.

the 90BHP lump can be pulled up to around 115BHp without and hassle.. Chiiped Uk may even be able to lift that a little higher..

    VW Golf 4 1.9 TDI 90[RIGHT]Stock
    VW Golf 4 1.9 TDI 90 Stock
    Remapped

Power (hp) 90 hp 116 hp
Torque (Nm) 210 Nm 265 Nm

Also think about a bigger turbo from the 115BHP lump?

    Cheers

    Rick

Thanks for the reply. I phones up few garages and they said it will cost me around 2,500 - 3,000 pounds for everything to put GT TDI 150 BHP. I have decided to get TDI 115 BHP and then remap the enginge, get induction kit and exhaust which will give me a hope around 170-190 BHP.

You won't get 190 bhp from a remap and afew bolt on's, you will need to do a bit more work then that, such as a new turbo and intercooler, stronger head could be needed, the list is endless, it really is.

Whats the maximum people on this site managed to get from 115 BHP engine? I'm willing to spend 2,000 pounds which is 900 goes for the engine already.
What about dump valve? Does it make any difference? Tnks

It is really not worth it.
You'd be better off getting a 130hp car and mapping it, it'll gostraight up to 180'ish hp. Getting the 115 over 150hp will prove expensive in comparison and you would struggle to get near the 180 mark without spending all that cash.

What would be more economical if you do keep your car would be to fit the 130hp engine, turbo, ecu and cluster and get it mapped. That way youd get more bang for your £'s and this would leave you the option of breaking the 200hp barrier at a later date.

    the man speaks much sense.

the 130 shares a lot of the running gear and engine components of the 150, so for remapping and performance enhancements, the 130 is a better option than either the 90 or the 115.

one thing i've noticed... you don't say what year your car is? the early 90bhp's were VE engines, which have even less potential than their PD counterparts, so that may be worth considering also.
