Last week the power steering on my A6 1.9 started groaning, but only when the car is cold. Seems fine when warmed up.

Could this be the old alternator pulley problem I keep reading about, or is there another possible issue?

When the one way clutch goes, they rattle so not the pulley I wouldn’t think. Check the PS fluid level, A6 racks leak and it may be getting low.
