    Hi all,

I posted a topic last night about my starting problems on my Golf Gti 1998 Reg. I managed to fix it with a new battery.

Problem is now the radio is in Safe mode and i dont know the code to unlock it.

Its a Gamma Cassete radio. Does anyone know the code or does each radio have a separate code?

    Thanks

    Steve

Each radio has a seperate code.

It should be in your handbook.

If not your best bet is your local VW dealership.

The same problem with mine. Only difference is that I bought the Gamma Radio as second-hand so the code in technical book doesn't match. The serial no. is : VWZ1Z3A6699347. Is a 1998 Golf MK4, 1.4 engine. Can anybody help? Thank's.

The only way I know of getting the code is to take the car to VW where the plug it in and the code is retrieved on line from VW.

I just called the main VW dealer in Ireland and he said that they can't do anything if the unit wasn't fitted by factory, in the original car. Probably only in this country something like this is possible. I forgot to ask them if they know if a red Golf have to have the same number of wheels like a .....green one. Probably they gonna ask the technical department.

I bought a Gamma from fleaBay and needed the code. Spoke to the Service Dept who took the serial number of the unit, phoned the Milton Keynes head office and 45 mins later they called me back with the code. No problems and no charge.

Yes but they won’t/can’t do that anymore. That is what used to be possible until around a year ago.
