The past 2 mornings on the way to work in my Mk4 PD150 it seems that the clutch didnt return to my foot on two occasions, and i had to flick the underside of it with my toe to make it return fully. It might just be me being paranoid because i only just bought the car, but have any of you guys heard/experienced anything like that?

    Cheers

MK4 have a hydrolic clutch, no cable. check the pedal box, see if that is sticking or broke

Hi If iam not mistaken here, it is a problem with the clutch pump.I think there is a modified pump which resolves this problem. It has no cable.

Does that mean it is an intermittant problem caused by an iffy original clutch pump design?

Or is it something that has happened with age, and the pump deffinately needs replacing?

Sounds like a faulty master cyclinder, or maybe slave, or possibly the bearing sticking. Whatever the cause, get it checked asap, as whereas you notice the extremes when the pedal stays down, at other times the clutch may be part engaged and you don't notice - which is really really bad for the clutch. If its slipping under normal driving conditions, which it will do if part engaged, the heat build up will damage the flywheel too....

I'm not aware of any common pedal box problems on the mk4... although also a possibility.

I dont know, some of the cars we changed the pump on, were only a few months old and others were a couple of years, for some reason it was only the mk4 that seem to have had this problem

This is common; it needs a new master cylinder which is quite quick and easy to do. If people would bleed the clutch at the same time as bleeding the brakes (every 2 years), it would not happen so much.
