    Hi I have an 2002 A4 avant.

Yesterday I pulled the glovebox lever and nothing!
The lever moves and locks with the key but I cant open it, persumably the lock has become disengaged ,

    Any ideas ?

I have a 97MY A4 1.9TDI and several years ago had a similar problem - couldn't unlock the glovebox. I did manage to open it eventually by jiggling the key but then the problem came back. I asked the dealer to fix at the next service, but whatever he did, the problem duly returned. Since then, I have never attempted to lock with the key and it doesn't get stuck.

Same happened to me in an A4.
open the pasenger door. at the end of the dash there is a panel that comes off with a small screw driver, take off panel to expose the glovebox and in the top right there is the catch for the glovebox, press that in with the screw driver and you glovebox should open. you then undo the screws on the top of the glove box until it falls out, then you can unscrew the lock fron the right hand side and replace.
its simple enough you just need 3 hands to put it back together.
