    Hi everyone,

    I am now the proud owner of a 2000 A3TDi 110.

    A few questions...

What should I expect to pay for a Cambelt Change (near Basingstoke)

I thought it might have a MPG/trip computer but obviously not!

Best place for accessories, floor mats, I-pod connection etc, I've tried flea-bay.

    Anything else I should know?!

    Thanks

    Rich

Don't shop by price on this job. You should ask questions about what will be done and insist on the water pump being changed, the use of G12+ coolant, which bolts will be replaced (that must be the engine mount to body bolts at least and preferably the consul to block bolts as well) and also ask if a Commencement Of Injection (COI) plot can be provided with the receipt at the end of the job and if you are met with looks/sounds of puzzlement, walk away/put the phone down.

    Excellent advise, thankyou!
I'd better find out what a COI plot is myself first then!

The Commencement Of Injection timing is set using a graph and plotting the COI against fuel temperature (and therefore density) and is a very difficult thing to get absolutely dead on when working on a later VEP TDI engine as for each adjustment, the engine has to be turned off, the injection sprocket bolts loosed and the pump sprocket centre bolt advanced or retarded as necessary. The amount of movement required for a huge change on the readings is tiny and you spend a lot of time shooting either side of the target reading. VAG-COM has an excellent function for this which shows the graph on the screen http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-scope/TDIGraph.html, VW’s method is on a look up graph using live data fields. Note that on some cars the sprocket bolts must be changed if they are released and this is determined by the type of bolt used.
