    Hello

    The saga continues....

    Had a 7-plate-clutch conversion... it didn't work.

Audi have had my car for 4 days and have decided that it now needs a new valve body.

Crasher did say ( on other thread) that this could happen and could cost just over £1000.

Anyone out there with any experience of this repair? Does it work? Is it even worth bothering with - maybe I should just trade it in?

A very unhappy person who bought an Audi for reliability .

    hi max,

Have you thought about shouting at the dealer as arguably they replaced the wrong part in the first place!

    Yes.....

They are saying that it was a "mis-communication". (diagnostics done at my local branch, work done at their larger branch).

Haven't shouted yet, being VERY polite. Have pointed out that approx £500 was paid for work that was mis-diagnosed so maybe that should be refunded - as the work wasn't needed.

Again, without ANY prompting from me, Audi have agreed to pay 50%, and the service manager is trying to get them to fund the other half as well! Is this their way of admitting to a problem?

I do have to consider in all this that the car was not Audi approved - so they are in actual fact being reasonable - probably because they are fully aware of the problem.

Contemplating an A3 (manual, of course), hopefully they will do me a good deal - worth a try!

Just keep being polite and don't get shirty.

Approved or not, you took it to them in good faith for whatever reason and between the two audi venues you mention, they have stuffed it up.

You were obviously expecting to have some kind of invoice for work carried out and were possibly given a price that you were happy with or budgeted for. So i'd let them get on with it, and when it is all righted, discuss the inconvenience you have been caused by their communication etc etc, and suggest they contribute to 50% of your original bill and refuse to pay for work not required.

You can not be expected to pay for their errors.

    just my opinion.

After 10 days my car is now back with me!

It has had a new valve body at a cost of £1200. 50% paid for by Audi parts and 40 % by Audi customer service. The other 10% I have to pay or try and get the seller to pay.

I have said that the seller shouldn't have to pay anything as he has already paid for something that hasn't worked - and by Audi's own admission - was done due to a "mis-communication"!.

How long before it goes wrong again?

It drives well - as it did after the first repair - so we will see. Unfortunately since it has come back the central locking doesn't work!!!!!!

Have I just got the one problematic Audi around - or is this the norm??

I had an A6 with the same box/problem today and I just told him straight, either I fit an exchange Audi box or he goes elsewhere. Repairing these boxes is a mugs game, the dealer should have known better.

    Hi All,

Got the car back last night with new gearbox. I've done approx 150 miles and all seems fine so far. As Audi have replaced the entire gear box with a new one I now have a two year warranty on it, which is very re-assuring given all the threads / issues.

The customer service from the Audi dealer has been very good. Between Audi UK and Germany, a large contribution to the cost of repair has been paid - 80% in total, leaving me 20% of the total cost (approx £1000).

Will keep you posted if any more problems occur.

Glad your car is now ok - hope it lasts!

The dealerships have been very good - but things could be improved by them just acknowledging that there is a problem and recalling the affected cars.

Let us know if it goes wrong again!

If VAG recalled all the cars they have made in the last five years that have a serious problem like this, they would go bust overnight.
