    Hi,

I purchased some Rain X the other week, applied it as advised, (i think i put too much on!!) BUT... If you use it how long does it last??

Since i applied it i have done about 1600 miles, (2 weeks) and for the last 1200 miles i think its all gone and worn off....

Most of the driving has been in the rain, but i recall after about 400 miles i had to scrap ice of the screen so i guess thats whats pulled it off????

One other thing i did was applied it to the rear window thinking it may help to dispell the water on my A4 Saloon, normally the rear glass cleans with the air flow at around 50 mph.. since putting the rain X on it does not clear for about 15 mins @ the national speed limit.. I know there is no direct airflow hitting it but i expected it to work due to the air flow over the car that would normally clear it..

    Any thoughts??

    Rick

I think that stuff is snake oil and a waste of money.

Far better to wax your side and rear windows. Leave the front screen alone.

I know I keep harping on about it but get some Collinite 476 wax. It is by far the longest lasting wax going, beads like nothing else and believe it or not brings up the window rubbers like brand new so is safe and easy to use on the windows without the worry of marking the rubbers.

    Hi Rick,

I used RainX for a couple of years and during this time I was pleased with the results especially during motorway driving. Recently I discovered a similar product made by Mer. This stuff really does the business. I applied it to my windscreen back in July and 6k miles and the rain stilll repells swiftly. During this time I have scrapped my windscreen on at least 6 occasions (living in sunny Scotland)

As far as the other windows go I only ever use Autoglym body wax. When I wax the car I also go over the side/rear windows. This does the trick nicely.

I tried RainX a while back and have been disappointed by it so far. I had the same problems with the read window which is why I bought it and it has made little difference. As I've got it I'll use it a few more times but I don't think I'll be buying it again.

I find it to be good. I apply it about 4 times and the rain just slips away even at very low speeds.

Hoping Santa will provide me with some of the Halfords version in two weeks. I'll revisit this post with my feedback in due course.

I have an estate so I can't really pass comment on your rear window problem.

However, I use RainX on the windscreen and side windows and am so far very pleased with it. I find the wipers gradually wear it off the windscreen so I reapply it every couple of weeks (approx 1000 miles). On the side windows I find it doesn't wear off unless you scrape the windows or raise and lower them often enough, so I only reapply it about every other month.

I did put it on my mirrors as the bottle suggested and this was a mistake as it made them difficult to see with when covered in water. Some alcohol based foam cleaner from work soon removed it though.

    Cheers
