Well had my MOT on my mk3 golf driver today and it would appear the rear tyres(205/40 R17s) which have covered something like 20k by my estimation and are now on the wear marks so need doing in the next few weeks. The brand is `silverstones` and they have faired well but obviously on a straight axle at the back they dont get the same sort of abuse as the fronts which lasted about 10k before i wore the inner edges (slight camber issue when I lowered it lol got a tool to set it up a bit better now) so then I fitted a pair of Kumho Ecstas on the front which have lasted similar milage.

So Im close to needing a set of 4 tyres, 2 for the back in the next 2 weeks and 2 for the front by feb but im trying to decide on what tyres to get.

the tyres have to be 205/40 R17s (or 215/35s would be better so they protect the rim but dont increase the rolling radius) so im wondering what I can get around the £55 a tyre mark, I do alot of motorway miles seeing my g/f (440+ each time i see her) and lots of local windy road driving.

Any good suggestions?

So far the 2 choices I have looked at are Falken Ziex ZE 512 205/40 ZR17 84W RF with rim protection & Kumho ECSTA SPT KU31 205/40 R17 84Y XL BSW, both are around the £50 mark, anyone used these? how do falkens fair agains kumho as I have found over time the kumho tyres tend to wear on the inner and outer edges quicker than the main part of the tread.

any ideas much appreciated
