hi all i've been given an 83 polo 1.1 and all started well using it as my daily driver due to lack of efficiency im my primera and lack of engine in my pulsar nx. first week went great then a missfire became apparent on number 3, plugs leads cap and arm didn't cure it. ordered replacement contacts (came in wrong) but having removed the distributor i noticed the contacts weren't opening, adjusted them slapped the distributor back on and it fired up perfect. couldn't find any info on ignition timing so i set it to 13 degrees before tdc (feel free to tell me the official figures) ran for another week before another missfire showed up. i'm stuck on this one tho. checked the tappets and number 4 exhaust tappet was holding the valve open, adjusted that compression increased from 75psi to 115psi and cured missfire on number 4 but another missfire on number 3 is there along with a total loss of all power under load. however if i pull the plug lead off number 3 plug lead and hold it so the spark can just jump to the plug the car runs a hell of a lot better!! at that point i got confused and stopped. any help and ideas welcome. cylinders 1 2 &3 all have 150 psi or as close as.
    Dave.

although the plugs were only 2 weeks old (if that) and NGK (i've never experienced problems with NGK and always use them) i decided to change them due to the missfire moving as when i took the plugs out i piled them up rather than put them in order. quick trip to halfords £11 on some Bosch super 4's fitted them and it started up on choke needing no throttle at all and ran perfectly, bit of tax and it's back to my daily driver.

next problem to sort out is the kenwood tape player and single center mounted dashboard speaker. it's less than impressive and possibly origional.

Does anyone know if you can get door cards with speaker pods in? maybe a later year of the same shape?
