Hi, this is my first post. Can anyone identify why my gt tdi 130 (51 plate) is leaking oil from here? I know nothing about these engines, this is my wife's car and the last engine I worked on was on my 205 gti - a whole lot simpler!

I suspect the leak is actually from the plastic cap rather than the metal one.

Any advice is greatly appreciated - THANKS!

I started to poke around today after she said it had momentarily cut out a couple of times in all the recent wet weather.

I have this on my Passat. The oil is coming from the turbo seals and blowing around the induction pipes. The silver thing is the EGR Valve and the oil is coming out of the two little holes, not from the plastic breather pipe. This is normal and happens as the boost pressure builds up oil seeps from the seals very slowly over time. I wouldn't worry about it. I cleaned mine and it just re-appeared.
    Hope this helps

It is quite normal and nothing to worry about.

Thanks guys, that's a relief seeing as we have to drive it 300 miles on Friday! I guess it's time to get it fully serviced now as it's approaching 120k. Cheers!

If there is the time/money, have the garage take off the EGR valve and give it a good clean as well a scooping out the crud from the inlet manifold behind the EGR valve, they will love you for asking them to do that.
