Hi All, first post, but found an issue with the car that I though needs a thread.

Driving my car on the motorway, I noticed a tiny 'miss' in the engine, almost like an bike misses... thought nothing of it, then about 100 miles later (same trip) there was another more pronounced miss.

About 10 miles later the car sounded like it was driving on wet roads (like a swishing noise) whenever the gas was on, this then got worse by the second, until every acceleration resulted in a whoosh, and a tonne of black soot out the rear!!

Called RAC who had a look around, took it for a test drive and said it was the turbo possibly giving up.... £1000 repair!!

Got teh car home and jacked it up, had a good look at the turbo, not rattles or excessive soot around there, diss-assembled every inter cooler pipe and loan behind, a tiny split in the pipe dropping down off the turbo, hidden from the eye!

parts ordered totaled £80 as I also got a replacement 90Deg as that looked near to splitting too.

While the parts were ordered I needed to drive my car so I un-hooked the sensor on the top inter cooler pipe, this meant the turbo didn't run and no black soot (crap performance though, but hey!)

here some photos of the temp repair, and the two new pipes, the long one was £63, the short one £13... work that out!

great site, hope this helps others with the same problem.

disconnect this to stop black soot!

temp repaired pipe using lock wire, gaffa tape and zip ties.

    the new pipes!

    sorry deleted photos.
repair is easy though Neil. jack car up, remove under body cover.

lying on your back, to you right is a black rubber 2.5" tube dropping down off the turbo and running to a squat metal tube along the front of the car, this then joins another black tube and then connects to the cooler sat in the front NS bumper corner.

Mine split in the first section, very thin and right at the top, so remove all pipes one by one and inspect carefully. they are retained by a spring clip which is re-usable so its quick and easy to do.

as for dis-connecting the turbo, I took off the sensor connector - located when standing looking at the engine right at the back, on the return inter cooler pipe (made of plastic). You made need to take the engine cover off, can't remember.
