    Hi all,

Could someone please tell me where the idle control valve is on Golf mrk3 Engine code AEE.
The revs are very erratic and a friend suggested cleaning the idle control valve, only beig female I dont know where to find it!! Have tried looking in Haynes manual which wasnt much use either, and also led me to believe that the multi injection petrol models (which is what ours is) hasnt got one atall and that the revs arent manually adjustable.

    Please help!!
    thanks,
    Cara

Quite right, this engine has no idle control valve,it does have a throttle control unit. What you can try is,get some start gas and spray around the vacum hoses and see if it stabalizes the ideling. If not, then you need a read out of the engine control unit to see if there are any faults loged there

    Thanks Kenney!

If you see my other post above this one, I think the problem could be that the ECU just needs resetting, although Im trying to find out how to do it, whether it can be done by disconnecting the battery or have to use computer. It a 1998 model.

Thanks again, if the ECU trick doesnt work ill try your suggestion.

You can not reset the ECU you can eraise the fault codes, and if the fault is still present, then it will be relogged

You will be needing diagnostic equipment to do this, most garages have them, but i would recomend a VW mechanic,as he should know the right procedure

    HI!

Just wondering if you managed to slove your problem?
    CAN ANYBODY HELP ME!

I have a 1996 golf mk3 AEE engine, got it 6 months ago. I took it to a garage spent over £600! full service, cam belt changed + other stuff got it back was ok and then it started idleing really bad, like you were saying..

It had a K&N filter, but it was filthy, and old someone had not clicked the oil dipstick all the way in and OIL splashed over K&N air filter and went into the little air filter and down the breather pipe! I took off K&N filters and it started running bit better straight away, but then next day crap!

I then took off beather housing and pipe and it was jam packed with old oil (mayo) and a bit of water, i cleaned it put it back on, sprayed out butterfly throttle housing with carb cleaner, got a original air filter housing from scrapy fitted it and put slick50 in the fuel!! OK!

Started running bit better, the more i drove it but VERY LUMPY sounds like a tractor! Kept stalling when parking, full lock on power steering! Then tonite a parked it, went back to it and its DEAD! then engine turns but nothing happens, cant smell as any fuel either!!

QUESTIONS: Did i need to do a throttle body alignment?

    I

Hi (ts DEAD) if you start with the basics do you have a spark at the plugs?,do you have fuel supply?have you had a fault code read,?remove the plugs and check their status, this might give you an idea of what is happening. The fact you did not adapt the throttle body is not the reason why your engine will not start. A comp test will also help to make sure your engine is mechanicaly ok.
