2002 A4 1.9TDi - 17-20MPG

Hi all

Would really appreciate any help with the following problems which are beginning to annoy the hell out of me:

My 2002 A4 1.9TDi 130PS was running perfectly. Parked it up as normal, the next morning the car wouldn't start straight off and took 3/4 turns of the engine to start. Didn't think much of it but it has continued to do this 97% of the time. The other 3% it starts as it should - straight away. The other fault which I assume is part of the same problem because it started at exactly the same time is that the car only does 17-20MPG. This is the case whether I take it on a long run or around town.

I have taken it to my local Audi garage only for them to keep telling me they don't know and to bring it back for more 'investigation'!!!!!

I have had the glow plugs replaced, the air-mass meter, the air filters and re-mapped but still the same problems.

There is a sort of howling noise coming from the engine after a minute or so warming up. It happens when I press the accelerator and then release. I have had the turbo checked and there is no problem there.

Can anyone please help. After months of Audi messing me around, I could do with some guidance.

Blimey 17-20 mpg, something is well wrong there!! It points to turbo from what you said, but as it's been checked out I'm rather stumped. How is it for performance?

Hi. Performance is fine, accelerates exceptionally well with a good top speed. There is barely any smoke apart from the normal with a diesel.
