Hi, I've just joined here and am looking some help! I drive a 2003 A6Tdi and recently one of my headlights began to mist over badly, so i bought a new set on internet from Germany. Mechanic has just put them in, got home and BOTH now seem to have some mist inside Any ideas?????

I have come across a couple of misted up headlamps. I can only imaging there is a seal gone somewhere in the unit and some water is getting in. Only solution I have found is to replace with a new unit - not that that helps you as from what you say they are new units!!

As for upgrades suggest the newish Philips X-Treme Power +80% from www.powerbulbs.com

I was told by an AA man to release back panel on light fitting, keep lights on at full beam with engine running for about an hour, and lights will dry out, wait for them to cool down and then replace the back panel. It worked !!!!!!!!!!!!! PS 460 a piece seems excessive ???

I've just yesterday fitted Philips X-Treme Power main beams and the highest rated Osrams as dip beams to my 2000 A6 (all from powerbulbs.com). Standard lights, particularly dip, I've found truly awful on a heap of Audis I've owned. Heading to Inverness early next week, where we need headlights 24 hours a day, so I'll be able to let you know how they perform.

I've just fitted the Osram bulbs, supposed to be 90% better.

Don't know if it's 90% but it's certainly a world better than before, off to West Cork for Christmas so decided that it might be handy to able to see where I'm going, so far so good....

My A6 headlights mist up whenever any appreciable rain falls, usually along the bottom edge of the unit so in this country pretty much all the time.
I have examined the connectors inside which appear unaffected. Trouble is whenever a moisture laden atmosphere encounters a cool surface the enevitable condensation occurs.
To date, I have had no problems at all, it just appears for a couple of days and then it's gone.

Update, as promised, on test of all new headlight bulbs to try to get some forward night vision out of my 2000 A6 2.7T:
    - main beams (Philips) - good improvement
    - dipped beams (Osram) - hardly any improvement noticeable. These are the important ones for me, and I am at a loss to understand why the.........

problem persists. Is there an issue with the lenses? No fogging up, though the heavy glass of the dipped lenses perhaps looks a little cloudy. I'd say this makes the car hairy to drive as there is not enough strength or depth to the light produced on dip.

Really interested if someone can shed some light (ha!) on the problem.

    Thanks,
    Joe
