Hi guys just had an accident need some advice on what to do

i was stationary in a traffic and the car behind me moved forward and bumped into me ....their was no damage to either cars ....but the driver tried to say my car rolled back.....i argued if (Which i did not) i did roll back he should not have been tailgating...

the police arrived and confirmed no damage no injury to either involved i have the log number for this.

my question is if i report this to my insurance company would they increase my insurance or would i lose my claims bonus??

Im thinking as their is no damage to either why report it? :x

if the car behind you hit you then its their fault. you had your hand brake on and was resting your foot on the brake pedal so how could you roll back?

if there is no damage or injury i'd forget it.

as for your NCB or premium.

If its protected then you are ok so long as you've not had any other declared accidents up to the ammount they allow.

will it increase your premium? - of course it will, any excuse they need to screw more money out of you.

what happens if he reports it to his insurance company...because he did try and blame me...and we both exchanged details?

Sorry for so many questions but never had an accident before.
    thanx

The highway code states that the car behind has to leave enough room even incase you rolled..

I will find the caption from the highway code later and post..

Inregards to the damage... he went into you..

Even at 5mph damage under the bumpermore than likley will of been done.. The bumps just pop back so it looks like nothing has happened..

The rear breaker bar normally pushing in causing the boot line around the spare wheel to push in..

I would get the car assessed at a local body shop to ensure no damage has been done under the skin..

You was in front, so you will not normally be seen to be at fault. The driver behind would have to prove that you was at fault, he/she would need a witness of which the police will have a record of. I would not worry about it, but phone the insurance and just report to them the incident making it clear there is no damage.

You will have a police incident number or can obtain it by phoning your local police station and letting the insurance company have it.

They will not increase your premium as you have not done anything wrong and are not making a claim.

    Pops11,

Sorry to sound a bit harsh, but you're making a mountain out of a mole hill. The Police have attended, confirmed there was no injury or damage so in effect there was no accident. Why bother troubling your insurance company? If the other party tries to pursue it (facts are there is nothing to pursue in the Police's opinion) take the time to explain the situation and pass on the Police info.

    Advice....relax and forget about it

Ive got to agree with this. You have proof from the police that no damage occured. Just forget it and pass on the police details if the other party reports it and tries to pull a fast one.

i always thought this was true too. the person behind is at fault for not leaving enough space between the two of you. it is in the highway code too. i failed my driving test because a guy in a lorry was tailgating me so i eased of the accellerator slightly to force him to back off, he was so close he had to slam on, im not sure why this was my problem, but i imagine it depends on the situation to find where the fault is.

in reply to the post, forget it, the other guy is probably just happy that he didnt end up getting claimed off. no matter what, the other person will always try and weasel out of it, no matter how at fault they are.
