Grumbling noise at idle A6 1.9tdi

Hi

Whilst reversing onto the drive yesterday, I noticed a faily low pitched grumbling noise at idle. It sounds almost like a clutch graunch, but doesn't seem to be related to the transmission at all.

A quick look tonight (in the dark) makes me think the sound is coming from the front, a slight belt squeal on full lock, but this sound is a bit low pitched for a belt slipping.

I've checked all the various plastic covers for something vibrating, but they all seem secure.

Any ideas of likely culprits?

Cam belt tensioner bearing giving notice. Do not ignore this as it could become very expensive. Regards Peter

I've just been out and done a quick water spray test on all the belts but nothing changed. It does sound like a bearing to me.

No faults came up on VAGCOM.

Would the tensioner have been changed at the 60k service? I know the belt was.


I've called the warranty company and they will arrange for the car to be collected.
