    Default Passat 1.8T - BHP Query – 30-11-2007,10:44 PM
    Am I correct in thinking that for the Passat 1.8T ('96-'01) there are two different power outputs? As far as I'm aware there is a 125bhp version found in the low spec models and a 150bhp as found in the SE and Sport models.

    Is this right? And how can I tell the two different engines apart?

    Not quite! the 125hp engine is the non turbo 20v. The turbos were all 150hp in the early years, there is a 180hp engine as well but I'm not sure if it made it into the B5 passat. The turbo engine (obviously) has a turbo on it, the 150hp engine code is AEB which should be the first three digits on the barcode sticker on the timing belt cover.

    Thanks for that. I've been looking at the parkers website and they seem to have quite a few figures wrong recently.
