    Is it hard to swap out seized 1.8t quattro 5speed and put in a tdi motor?

    I bought a 98 1.8t quattro with a bad motor and i found a tdi motor cheaper then the 1.8t

    Its a big job, you will have to switch fuel lines, g'box, engine, engine loom, driveshafts, suspension, ECU, instruments, keys, and a bunch of other stuff. Best is to get a donor car complete and to replace everithing it needs. Otherwise, get the petrol engine in and leave it as it is !

    thanks for the reply..... I guess ill be sticking to the 1.8t motor.



    do the s4 guage clusters work with the 98.5 up 1.8's?

    It should, if its the same immo.2. If its a immo3 it might not work. Anyway, you will need someone with vag-com and the SecretKeyCode to transfer the info from the old cluster to the new one as the key and immobiliser needs codding to the new engine ! Not as simple as its sounds and the dealer charges big bucks to do ! Ideally, i would get the engine, keys and clocks from the donor car then swap the key blade from donor car keyfob with the one from yours. That will ensure that the car will start after transplant is completed...
