Hi, The central locking on my mark1v golf works fine but as of two days ago one of the rear doors will not open. The button pops up but the door remains closed and the child lock is on so cant open it from inside. I have managed to remove the top of the inside door trim from the window seal and gain access but this does not seem to help. I thought if I can remove the metal panel that is fixed to the door frame by unscrewing the eight or so bolts I would be able to reach in and manually unlock the lock but this metal section appears to be riveted to the window mechanism behind thus making it impossible to gain any access ! I am generally quite good at working things out but this has really got me stumped .......... how on earth do I or a mechanic for that matter get this door open ? Please offer any help you can.

Just to let everybody know that my local vw specialist has storted this problem by strpping off all the door trip and components and then smashing (not as bad as it sounds) off the door lock thus gaining access and then replacing the lock - one of the 3 lock motors in the lock will have stopped working - common fault apparently. A sign that the lock is on the way out is if the door will not shut, bouncing off when you try and close it !

    Hi,
I have the same problem ang got ripped off by the dealer. The problem occurred under warranty and they bodged it. It then broke again just out of warranty and they refused to repair.
Any idea what the dealer charged you for the repair?

    Thanks

You're looking at a bill for around £200, if you go to a main dealer, but they will fix it for sure.
God knows how, because I'm no mug when it comes to cars & it drove me bananas. Rear doors are harder to work on than the front.
