    Hi all,

I have an 02 Golf TDi 150 with 111k on the clock. Have had it about 3 months and am now beginning to feel like I need a bit more! What concerns me is will I start having problems if I up the power?
The car has full history and drives very well and I would hate for that to change because I of something that I have done. Also can anyone recommend anywhere in the south east of England that can carry out the work if I choose to go ahead?
Any input gratefully received! Many thanks...

chipped ?? you could get it remaped being carefull not to get to much power added as it sometimes effects your clutch, do a search on here as quite a few people have had it done

had my 150 done, feels great goes well, depending on how much life your clutch has left and how you drive, you might have to replace your clutch at some point.

....warning... its a duel mass flywheel and clutch kit, just had mine done and cost me £600, could be expensive on where you live and where you get it done.

other than that its worth doing.

get it done it is fun. Having the clutch replaced at the mo on my bora probably due to the remap. You say you are in the south east? i'm in norfolk. Go to Vw speed on rackheath industrial estate near norwich. Very good and friendly Good advice from them too. have fun

Hmmm, any other car I would say yes but your turbo runs 1.5bar of boost standard and @ 111k it is getting near its life span. Replace the turbo and yes deffo remap it it will last long enough. On saying that the turbo may well last another 50k but it really is hit or miss at that miles

Get a custom map done for it, very little increase in BHP but a smoother power curve and it will still be very lively. Keep the torque a bit below 300 though.

Might be worth having a look at the cam before you do anything.. with that mileage im sure there will be signs (as its a 150, which eats them for breakfast) of wear.

If the cam is worn, i'd leave all as is and decide if it would be cheaper to change to a younger car. and go for the full power remap, or change the cam, get a remap and possibly the clutch let go soon after. This would leave you with little change out of £1400-£1500 when you take into consideration the price of the remap, cam replacement and cutch/flywheel replacement. Then as norchip says, your turbo might be on its last legs too.. its all money

If you look for CHIPPED UK on the forum, get your name down for the remap day in Bromsgrove in December. I had mine done a few weeks ago and have had no problems whatsoever. I have an 02 ARL that had a new clutch in the summer. It has done 108k miles. The 1st run on the rolling road confirmed that I was down on power - to 140BHP. Then after the remap the rolling road measured 196BHP and 300lb/ft torque. Normal driving is fine, but when I want to do something and hit the loud button, the world becomes a happier place all of a sudden Fuel comsumption has bettered by 6MPG overall as well.

With any custom remap or power increase, there are possibiliteis of extra wear and tear. The ARL engine is good for 300k miles if looked after. Check the history of the car and if hasnt had a new clutch, then you will be requiring one soon anyway. So get that done BEFORE any remap ok!

Thanks guys. That was just the kinda stuff I wanted hear! I will give the car a good going over before deciding whether to do it or not as I dont want my car to turn into a money pit that leaves me on the side of the road awaiting recovery!
