Hi all, i drive an Audi A6 1.9 tdi avant. I bought the 2 front tyres...michelins soon after buying the car. They've travelled 12000 miles and they are now at minimum depth of 3mm. What's up with this car? I normally got 24000 miles out of my old Audi 90. What mileage should I expect?

If they are worn evenly then your right foot is to blame for excess going and stopping. The TDI produces far more torque than your previous and I am afraid you have been using it. Regards Peter

Wouldn't worry too much about wear on the front after 12K miles, especially if it's a FWD car.

Obviously get the tracking checked out, but other than that, don't corner/accelerate/brake so hard.

The fronts on my old V5 Bora (170Bhp FWD) lasted 10-12K miles.

As previously stated, the A6 is a front-heavy car, much heavier than a Bora for example and from your old Audi.

Thanks everyone for your replies, I will have to change my driving habits in future. Must admit I do get wheel spin in second gear if I'm in a hurry, can' t be good for the tyres. The tracking has been checked, not at Audi but at an independant tyre and exhaust company who said it was ok and also said you can expect 15000 miles from most fwd cars these days.

Ones of those things which is subject to how you drive as everyone previously said. There may be another explanation, in as much may depend on where you drive eg lots of tight car parks, lots of windy roads.

Although I have noticed tyres don't seem to last as long these days; perhpas thats down to improved cars which go around corners faster, placing more stress on the tyres.

I'm changing my fronts to the back this weekend actually to get some extra mileage out of them!

You're buggered if you live in Milton Keynes or Basingstoke or similar - all roundabouts and dual-carriageways.

Okay so all this would explain why my tyres are disappearing at a much quicker rate than in my old Volvo 850...

Has anyone any experience with a slightly less expensive tyre than a Michelin or Pirelli? My Volvo got on very well with Toyos or Falken, any thoughts anyone?

    Hi There

I had a set of falkens that i had put on with a new set of alloys on a 406 V6. I was not to sure about them as a make initially but i have to say i ended up thinking that they were a pretty good tyre.

A budget tyre i would really rate is Barum, They are actually made by Continental. I have seen them up here for just over £45 fitted in a 205/55 x 16. Seems like a bit of a bargain to me
