Hi everyone. I have an Audi a4 b6 tdi (AVF engine) and I’m having some trouble with it so I was hoping someone with more knowledge on these engines/cars might be able to help.
I’ll try and keep it as short as I can without missing any important information.
Right, so a couple of weeks ago I had the dreaded camshaft failure, it had worn the #1 lobe near enough flat and also dished the lifter, as well as putting a small hole in it. So I proceeded to change the camshaft and lifters, tandem pump gasket etc etc. it all went smoothly but as soon as I got it all back together and tried to start it it wouldn’t start, it turned over fine but wouldn’t start, sprayed some easy start in it and it started but cut out straight away so I thought maybe the torsion values may have been out or something.
Moving on from that I was completely baffled as to what could be the problem, I asked a mate who is more knowledgeable around these and even he couldn’t think of anything so I booked it in with RAC. The guy came out and plugged it in and it came up with a few codes

DTC: 17994, Engine mount solenoid valve; short circuit to plus DTC: 17564, Manifold pressure sensor; short circuit to ground or open circuit
DTC: 17569, Manifold temperature sensor; open/short circuit to positive
DTC:19464, Camshaft sensor circuit; Value outside limits

Does anybody have any idea on what might be the problem or at least the root cause? Everything is plugged back in and no wires are damaged or anything like that so I’m completely baffled by it at this point.

a massive thank you in advance to anybody who might be able to shed some light on this.

Double check the pressure/temp (VW call it a “Thrust sensor) is plugged in but it is quite obvious so probably not missed. Did you lock the crank and pin the cam?

Thanks for your reply. I will have a look later today or tomorrow. And yes I locked both with the proper timing tools. Everything still locks into TDC with the pins etc that’s why I’m completely baffled with it

That it runs with a sniff of ether shows it has compression so for some reason the injectors are not being operated, you did plug the loom in?

Yeah everything got plugged back in when I reassembled everything. The injector loom was pretty fiddly to get back on though with where it’s situated. Am I right in thinking that the injector loom plug will only go on one way?

It is possible to fit the plug incorrectly, so that as it screws in, all the pins in the head harness get flattened, don’t ask how I know…

Ah right I’ll have a look and check if it’s on right or damaged any of the pins then. Suppose that could explain why it seems as there’s no fuel getting through. Going to try unplugging the cam sensor too, read a few forums and seen a few videos where they’ve started right up once it’s unplugged

If the cam timing is way out, the ECU picks this up via the crank speed sensor G28 and cam position sensor G40 and can stop, the injectors opening if the timing is way off.
