While my car was at main dealer trying to trace source of front suspension banging, the spanner monkey mentioned that I had the wrong rear shocks on my car - apparently they are for standard suspension and mine is PR code 1BV which is sports?

When I replaced these a couple off years ago the supplier mistakenly sent me the wrong shocks, but contacted me before I had chance to fit them - the units now are NAPA 1408

Springs replaced at same time with SUPLEX 03296 - original springs (both broken at bottom) had yellow, blue and 2 x pink marks on them.

Am I running the correct shocks and springs? - seems to be a bit of a minefield!!

Minefield doesn’t cover it, us “spanner monkeys” have to be very diligent about the parts we fit and not just blindly fit what the stores have given them; I order my own and we refuse to fit customers parts. What is the VIN?

The rear dampers are OE 4F0 513 032 AG (£199.20 retail inc.), NAPA don’t come up in a TecDoc search. I am getting the NAPA trade system installed next week but using your reg (from the VIN) in their retail system, it lists their 1408 which it quite clearly states is not for sports suspensions, so they are definitely wrong. Of those that come up in TecDoc from the OE number, there are none I would fit as all those listed cover way too many different numbers and tellingly ECP list nothing from the OE number, so for me, genuine only.

The springs, OE 4F0 511 115 CM (£205.20, retail inc.) are only listed by three companies with only the Viaco V10-6611 a single cross reference, specifically stating the colour code is the correct 1 x yellow, 1 x blue and 2 x purple. A Suplex 03296 is only equivalent the OE number 4F0 511 115 BG, colour code 1 x yellow, 2 x green and correct for your cars Pr:0YK weight group BUT for 1BA standard and 1BE sports suspensions, not 1BV. You can get the Vaico V10-6611 for £105 plus carriage from you know who.

If I fitted genuine dampers, I would fit genuine springs just in case there was a warranty problem (2 years) with the dampers; the Audi dealer would definitely use the aftermarket springs to blame for a failure.
