Hello all, a bit new to this so please bear with me.

Passenger window on my Audi A3 8l decided it didn't want to go down. checked the electrics to the base of the motor and seem to have 12v to large red green (power in) wire, brown (earth) back to battery), white violet (up, when actuated) and white black (down, when actuated). So presuming all wiring to this point ok and therefor motor at fault.

This is where I get a bit confused?? Both Haynes and audimanual.ru show removing the subframe from the door shell before removing the three mounting bolts holding the motor. I can see no gain or reason to remove the subframe as it looks as though I could just undo the mounting bolts and remove as is.

    Help or comments gratefully appreciated.

Also as a side question, whilst trying to understand the wiring there is mention of two 30 amp fuses, one for the drivers and passenger door motors and one for the two rear door motors. I can't for the life of me find their location, not on drivers side fuse box or battery fuse box (although there are 3 x 30a fuses there, thinking for other uses). Wondering if they are on the bottom right of the relay board in drivers footwell as not sure what it is with a multitude of wires coming from its rear, looks sort of fusey, about 1cm x 2cm and 5mm high with a proper connector and saying 30A on a green face. There is no fuse/relay box in the back rear right of the engine compartment.

    Many thanks in advance.

Morning and thanks for the reply,

    VIN is WAUZZZ8L82A010320

Audi reckon the part number is 8L4 959 801 C and no longer available through them. Any suggestions for suppliers gratefully received,

    thanks

We still look after a couple of 8L's, include a 1.6 from 98 and some spares are a real problem, you can't buy rear light unit bulb holders new in the UK. Yes, left front 4 door window regulator 8L4 959 801 C and yes obsolete from Audi UK and not available aftermarket; HOWEVER Tradition do have stock in Germany and I am building up my next order because their delivery costs are ridiculous, the more I order the more I can divide out the delivery cost. A guestimate would be £250 inc. VAT and carriage to you which compares with the last Audi UK retail of £317.10 inc.

Thanks Crasher, good job I was sat down reading that, seen a few second hand both here and Germany and prices from £25 to £300 ish.

Still wondering if I can just take the motor off without removing the regulator and subframe and if not why not? Looks like just a splined shaft to pull out when removing after taking out the three bolts? I haven't read of any major problems once new motor fitted, fully raise and hold for 2 seconds to give basic setting to control unit.

I'll work out the replacement when the old one's off as I'll probably have a play with it, also all the part numbers are on the door skin side so can't read to check until off, can't even photo it in situe.

    Many thanks
