Hi Steve. Getting the drain plug out isn't the issue. I don't want to take it out, and not have the correct tool to finish the job. If I had done it before then yes, I could probably cobble something together, but I haven't, that's why I am asking about draining and refilling.. I will get there eventually, one way or another.

I will look it up tomorrow, remind me. From memory the level setting/full drain tube has an internal M10 hex key fitting. This is the only picture of 09B 321 363 I could find.

Morning Steve I think I have got it. I found a download on Clonck with good schematics and instructions for the 09B gearbox. So there is a filler at the top under the battery tray, the drain plug is a 24, and the level check is a 5 hex I am going to get it up at ramps at each corner, heat up to drain, refill then check level 35-40 degrees till its just dripping
    ...does that sound about right!

I forgot to mention the car being level as with having four two post lifts I take it for granted. If you take off the upper filler plug, you need the snap off cover 01M 321 435 B, £2.52

I got it off and have a new one on the way. I will probably use slats of wood on top of the drive up ramps and a spirit level till its right.
Thanks Steve, will post if its successful!
