My tweeter on the driver's side of my UK car (right, or off-side) is non working. I've had the door card off and have removed the tweeter and connected it to my home stereo - it works fine. I've traced (a little) the wiring and there are 2 wires with the same colour coding that goes into the tweeter, going to the woofer plug. I've done electrical continuity/insulation checks on these and they are fine. The woofer is also fine in that is gives the correct sound. The woofer is pop-rivited into the internal door card so I've not managed to get to the back of the speaker to physically see how the wiring is connected - I do suspect there is some form of crossover filter in there which then routes the sound from the 2 incoming wires, through the crossover and then out on the two tweeter wires. Does anyone have any actual knowledge of the wiring routing or any other ideas as to why my tweeter might not be working? Short of taking off the other side door card and comparing signals via an oscilloscope, I'm not sure what to try next.

I can get the external door card off without too much trouble. THe internal door card with the window motor and other gubbins is held in palce with 8(or so) machine screws - no problems getting them undone, but then it seems to be held in palce with some form of large pop-rivit fixing. The one near the hinge seems to be able to be lifted out of a fixing/slot? but the one furthest from the door hinge doesn't want to lift like the one nearest to the hinge, possible because there is a bit of the door opening mechanism stopping it (behind the door card) - so how does this all come apart? If I could (easily) get this off, then I should be able to get to the back of the woofer to see the wiring route.

    Thanks!

The lifter frame is a lot of work to remove, after removing the trim panel, you have to disconnect the glass, then lift and retain the glass fully up, remove the door lock barrel (the mounting bar rotating disc can be a PITA) disconnect the outer door handle cable, release the lock unit, unbolt the panel and lift it away enough to disconnect the handle mounting bar cable from the lock unit and lift the assembly away with the lock unit flapping around on a (now obsolete) plastic bracket.

Thanks - seems like I'll be giving that a miss then as I don't have to. Any info on the tweeter wiring by any chance? If it comes to it, I'll just drill out the pop rivits holding the woofer in, see what's there, replace/rewire/modify as necessary and put all back together. Or maybe I'll just leave it all as it is as the sound isn't bad, just that VCDS picks it up as a fault, so if it can be fixed for not too much hassle....
