I'm getting obnoxious vibration at idle on my 2012 Golf 2.0 TDI estate. It's only at idle, even a tiny amount of throttle fixes it, and the car feels fine while actually driving.

Things I know it's not: the injectors and the upper right engine mount. I've done an injector deviation test which is OK, and I replaced the upper mount when I did the timing belt.

Next up for checking will be the dogbone mount and the transmission mount. Am I right in thinking that if the bush that the dogbone mount bolts into is damaged, the subframe will have to come out to replace it?

What's the correct test for the condition of the transmission mount?

If it's none of those, it's been suggested that it's the flywheel, which is obviously a whole other issue to inspect. I don't have any obvious DMF noise, indeed I have no idea if the vehicle's already had the DMF replaced with a SMF.

I did my transmission mount a few years ago after a very similar concern. Iirc best way to inspect was visual after removing battery tray.

The subframe mount, has an upper and lower section, is more difficult to change. I did mine with the subframe off the car although a very expensive Laser tool was available for in situ replacement.

Mines a 2012 1.6tdi hatchback the factory fitted flywheel was smf. VW used different OEM kits at various points of production. In fitment notes of the various kits production dates are given.

Says DMF to me. @Roverfan, a few years back we did a Polo (don’t recall the version) where a poor idle and box rattle were the subject of a TPI where you converted them to an SMF, did a software update and the strange part, replace the offside driveshaft.

Didn't know about the driveshafts being different and yes recently I did get to see a DMF vibration. It was a horrendous vibration with very little noise. If it's got a DMF and excessive vibration very likely to be that.
