Hi there,

I did an engine rebuild for this car after the tensioner went, cracking 2 pistons and bending a couple of valves. I also think the previous owner had long oil change intervals. After the rebuild we did compression test which turned positive (150+PSI) for all 4 cylinders and the timing was set correctly.

I changed the following; Valves, timing chain kit (sprockets, tensioner, chain, and guides), pistons, all gaskets, and con rods.

My mech did some grinding on the valves but he thinks the valve clearance is a problem (he is at the end of his wits I can tell). Given that the rockers and lifters on this unit are self-setting using oil pressure (or so I am told), do the new valves need setting, other than the grinding done to fit the valve seats?

I am getting advice from another mech that the cylinder head and the new valves need to be taken to an engineer for a pressure test, to make sure there are no cracks and to have the valves set.

Anyone done this rebuild before?

Thanks
