    Hi,

Occasionally when I try to open my boot it does not open, I have changed the lock so all good there. The issue seems to be a loose wire. The way I figure that out was by wiggling the wires :-), nothing technical. The issue seems to be a connection in the brown/tan coloured box in the image. Can you tell me how I can remove it from the fixture (fixed on the boot) and open the box up?
I've never done this before. Is is advisable for a general DIY'er to do this or should I take it to professional?
I'm hoping I can open the box and easily screw the wire back (like in a plug) or is it not that simple?

Any simple instructions / pointer will help.
    Thanks
    Mesh

That plug, I think as I can't see the wire colours very well, is called T5e and the Germans term that colour "Curry" in the world of automotive connections. I am surprised there is a problem there, taking the connector apart is easy by pressing the lock tab and pulling but repairing the terminals very specilsised work.

Thanks Crasher - It certainly looks like a curry colour when I think about it :-)
From my basic tests (moving wires around) it seems like the T5e plug has the issue. Would you know if the T5e has connections to the boot lock.
Thanks for pointing out it;s specialised work, I'll try to find a good workshop :-(
    Thanks

I need to look at the diagram again at work. To service the plug, you have to release what they call the “secondary lock” which is the purple one in many cases but this just requires a small screwdriver usually.

To release the primary lock (the “raste” as it is known), a generic example below

and this requires a specific terminal tool from the 23 piece VW terminal tool set which you can pay £400 for genuine or £25 from dozens of sources. If a terminal is or gets damaged, the VW way is with their yellow repair wires which they specify must be heat shrink crimped and not soldered or the way I try to do it is to keep as many of the terminals as I can get from AMP, RS, Würth etc and crimp them myself with uninsulated crimps. In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with solder as long as the repair is protected from fatigue inducing movement.

I shortened a way to long Lambda sensor harness yesterday on an S2 I am restoring as it would have looked ugly and unoriginal, the crimps were so perfect I came over all hot and moist… but then I am a bit odd over details, well in general.

    Nice neat work.
My connection seems different to the one you show. I can see the connections (still struggling to open the box) from the side and they look like the ones below.

Just wondering if I have explained the right box to you?
My one is located at around 3.56 in the video that I'm following. - YouTube. The video (for me) nicely explains how to remove the latch, which I've done and replaced.

    Thanks for you time.
