Hello, I have a 2013 Passat Highline, 1.6 diesel. About six weeks ago I was driving on the motorway and as I changed to 5th gear and tried to accelerate, the revs shot up but my speed stayed the same. If I applied pressure to the accelerator gently, my speed would slowly go up however as soon as I applied any significant pressure on the accelerator, revs go up and speed stays the same.

This has been ongoing and today I noticed that when it happened again, although I was in 6th gear, when I tried to accelerate (while cruising at 60mph) the revs shot up again, speed stayed the same but the digital read out that shows what gear I was in dropped to 4, then to 5 and back to 6, despite being in 6th gear all the time.

Any thoughts on what might be going on would be gratefully received. A colleague said it could be the clutch going but gear changes are still very smooth/no noise from the gearbox etc.
