Hi all, I’ve recently started having problems with my 2011 Golf 1.6 and no mechanic seems to know what is causing the problem. The car throws up the code: P00C600 fuel rail pressure low - engine cranking (passive/sporadic).
    These are the following symptoms:
Engine cutting out when slowing down
Clicking sound coming from the engine when accelerating
Judging when I put into it 2nd if I’m doing below 20kph
A very bad smell of diesel
    Dancing rpm needle
The fan belt will also occasionally turn on after driving.
Most of these symptoms will only happen occasionally and will go away after a 20/30-minute drive at high speeds.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would also like to add that the glow plug light will also start flashing occasionally, but the car does not go into limb mod

The fan running on is normal operation (except if too frequent and even then it's doing what it should be). The fuel system problems will need some extra investigation for diagnosis. Try a double ignition cycle before start to see if any better

You could try the sensor and regulator but they could be OK and it is the High Pressure Fuel Pump.

Could it be the egr valve/egr cooler ?

The input pressure needs to be seen or checked for sufficient flow from the tank to the fuel filter (checking for failed low pressure in tank pump). Also the fuel filter needs to be inspected for condition and excessive mettalic particles (failed hpfp). If both these are ok then onto the fuel rail or injectors.

The system is fragile in that you need to prime it for 3 mins after work on fuel system. This is usually done by the use of a suitable scan tool although each time the ignition is turned on it does run for 2 or 3 seconds.

The car will randomly start running rough maybe once or twice a week … dancing Rpm, stalling etc.
What I have noticed is that anytime it does this the fan belt will turn on(it never turns on otherwise) after I turn the car off.
Any ideas what could cause these symptoms with the fan belt turning on?

Fan running, in my DIY opinion, depends on where in the driving cycle it is happening. Could be no Comms to engine ecu, coolant temperature sensor error, dpf regeneration taking place (engine warmed)

The rough running is the diesel version of missing and usually down to faulty injector(s) but with your trouble code for low fuel pressure that could be the cause

Check the wiring loom infront of the gearbox. The loom can rub through in that area causing strange faults
