    Hi,

I have the strangest thing on my Golf GTI which has now happened a few times.

I can drive to work in the morning with the car working perfectly (35 minutes, 15 miles or so), then when I get in to drive home at 5pm, it almost immediately shows the EPC light and its in limp mode.

Turning it off for a minute, then back on usually resolves it for the rest of the journey weirdly. Its never done it in the morning, only in the evening.

Previously only had 1 fault code logged, but now got 2. Booking it in for repair tomorrow, but wondered how common this was? And is there a common component failure that would cause both fault codes?

Full VW history and 59k miles.

P00AF00 - Turbocharger boost control A Module (static)

Thanks (And I'll also let you know how I get on at the dealer).

Thanks, sounds like its a really common thing!

I had one of those fault codes with my turbo about 18 months ago (P00AF00) which was fixed under my VW warranty for free.

One snag with the warranty was I didn't get any paperwork about what exactly they'd done but they did say they'd replaced something ... so I don't know if its exactly the same fault or not.

Arnold Clarke haven’t made any remarks on the Digital Service System so the information will be on their own internal system. Yours has the early turbo which was revised about a year later and I would expect they fitted the servo motor which we did try but found it was being damaged by a tight wastegate spindle. These IHI units are considered unrepairable by most companies (including VW), not due to being physically repaired but because they are extremely difficult to set up so a genuine new unit is the way we would deal with it, part number 06K 145 874 M at £1714.03 retail inc.

Thanks so much for this, genuinely helpful. It's going in in ten days time, I'll come back with what they say/do.

So I have spoken to the dealership. They confirm it was the Turbo Actuator that was replaced 2 years ago, and that this time its the wastegate that is jammed, and they want to replace the turbo at a cost of £2819.

I am waiting to hear back from VW if the warranty I have will cover it. I believe it should, given that its the "All Component Cover".

We try and push for a new turbo as we know a new actuator won't last.
