Had everything out, side panels, bumper off, trim around the boot seal and fired ungodly amounts of weather proof sealant over and around all sorts of holes and grommets but it’s still making its way in on the drivers side, you think you’ve cured it but winter comes and it steams up when temp changes. Feel under the boot protector and the carpet does a really good job at hiding it to start with. You check for first few weeks then forget about it. Lift boot carpet and voila there’s a cm or so of water. Tried spraying hosepipe everywhere with every panel removed and I’m at a total loss. No sunroof, but has roof rails. Please tell me someone else has managed to solve this?

How about the vents behind the rear bumper? Notorious for letting water in. Revised number 3T0 819 465 A

Took them out and cleaned them up, put them back in with instant gasket around them 12 months ago. Might have to try them again with all weather sealant instead. I think instant gasket prefers pressure. Or just spend £40 on new ones and no sealant

Had a little further dig, once again this corner is sodden, so it’s either something higher on this side and it’s trickling down or it’s something around this vent. Bizzar, other option is to leave this bung out lol

Fit the new vents and seal them in with none setting Butyl rubber mastic, this is how we do Golf 7, you can see the sealant oozing out, VW part number D469101A3, I don't know of an aftermarket alternative, it's amazing stuff.

I had the same problem, it turned out to be the rear window washer pipe was leaking, somewhere inside the rear tailgate, and was leaking water into the boot whenever i used the rear washers. It was a relatively quick fix. Good luck.
