    Hi everyone

My audi A6, decided to stop starting all of a sudden.

I was driving and all of a sudden saw a “start/stop malfunction - go to workshop” warning. I continued to drive normally for 10mins. As soon as I got home and turned the car off, it won’t start again. It won’t even go into ignition.

Central locking, lights, radio etc works.

Worse thing is that the steering is also locked! So getting it towed isn’t as straight forward.

I tried the following with no luck:
    - Attached jump leads to another car
    - Changed the 645 relay under bonnet
    - tested battery voltage which read 12.9v. It’s gone down since then as I am constantly going in/out the car
    - scanned and cleared codes with VCDS

Any help is appreciated on what it may be or I could try!

    It’s driving me nuts!

That is probably going to need ODIS under Guided Fault Finding. We have a Passat 3C (AKA B6) in with the same problem, the steering was locked, parking brake on and stuck on a driveway. I had to go out twice and the second time, remove the steering column, take it back to work, fit a new column lock unit, go back out to refit and this brought the car back to life BUT immobiliser triggered so in addition to three one hour drives we had to get it recovered where it now needs a new connivence unit to go with the new lock and the customer can’t even afford the bill so far!

    Thanks for the reply!

My issue is eve dry garage I speak to are not interested! I guess they don’t want a car they can’t move around.

Just to confirm, does it mean the issue with yours was essentially the convenience module? Is that the BCM2.0 module that’s in the boot above the drivers side wheel?

If I can take this out myself, is it worth having it repaired?

Also when you say steering lock? Is that the ELV?

There’s one company that said to remove the ELV, the BCM and one key and post it off to them. But it’s quite a pricy service! And there’s no guarantees.

That was the problem this chap had, everyone he called didn't want to know then TPS recommended us and some stupid **** in the office said "no problem", if I find out who it was they are a dead man walking! ELV? On the Passat 3C, replacing the "Electronic steering column lock control unitJ764" means also replacing the "Convenience system central control unit J393"; why, I have never been able to find out and it looks like it isn't the same for yours, I have never had the pleasure! You still have to remove the steering column. It could be the convenience unit at fault and that does require ODIS for component protection and identity so it will need to be recovered to someone who will do it and NO, not me!

    Hi

Thanks for your response! It’s really appreciated.

The ELV is apparently the steering lock module.

    I came across these guys:
AUDI BCM2 Body Control Module Repair & Clone Quick Service

Who have asked me to remove the BCM2.0 and the ELV and send it to them with one key.

It’s quite pricy though. Which wouldn’t mind paying if I know it is the BCM!

They don’t repair the ELV but they need it in order to repair the BCM?

Do you think that’s worth a shot?

    Thanks!

Not mine, my customers and I will probably end up taking the car to settle his bill. He told me he only paid £1k for it and it is nearly there now!
