    Hi All

I found a car on Auto trader I was interested to look at, A4 Allroad.

When I checked the MOT history of the vehicle it showed all four tyres fitted wrong way round. The previous year the MOT noted nearside front and offside rear worn close to legal limit.

I'm not very clued up on this but how could this even happen? The direction of rotation is pretty clear. Maybe you'd get it wrong on one corner but all four?

It just concerns me that a fitter would get this wrong, the dealer wouldn't notice and then someone, like me, would be driving several hundred miles home in a new car on four directional tyres pointing the wrong way.

Any advice on what you think has happened and what I should do if I decide to look at it greatly appreciated

    Cheers

They need taken off and put on properly, it probably wont make a massive difference to grip, road noise etc. But if you're involved in an accident you might end up wondering if the tyres made a difference, worse case in a serious accident you might get prosecuted.

Cheers Gareth. Will ask them to do that then if I go and see the car and want to make an offer. I emailed them about the vehicle and asked them about this and didn't get a reply. Might be a sign to walk away. Although they are signed up to the AA used car sales scheme. If that stands for much I'm not sure?

Sorry if this seems such a basic question but one other thing. Would the tyres have to come off the rim or would it just be a case of putting them on the right corner?

I'm always edgy around dealers :-) Not sure if the AA scheme means much either, I guess it show they're maybe trying, maybe its just a tick box excercise for them.

If the tyres have 'inside' facing out they'll need to come off the rims and be turned round, if it was just wrong rotation they could be moved to the other side. I've recently paid £25 to have a puncture fixed so you're maybe looking at £80 to £100 for a tyre place to take all 4 wheels and tyres off, refit and rebalance. The dealer should pay for it anyway.

Nothing would surprise me with tyre fitters, there is a really dodgy one opposite our MOT station and the things they do! I saw a one year old VW ID Buzz Taxi in there on Monday, it was up in the air with all four wheels off and they had used two trolley jack under the sills one side and one on the other plus no jacking pads, not only that they were fitting second hand none EV rated tyres!
