Hi, hoping for some help with this non-starter.
1.4TFSi CMBA ~102k. It has been running fine with no issues. Apparently over the last week there was sometimes a pause after turning the key before the starter turned and it fired upstraight away. I was about to change the battery anyway as it was still on it's original (2013) and only does short journeys, so thought this might be the culprit. However, before I had chance to change the battery the car would not start at all. It cranked fine, but little or no attempt to fire. I changed the battery and cleared all the fault codes but this didn't make any difference. It now cranks immediately (with the sightest of splutters at the start) then just keeps cranking with occasionally maybe the slightest of splutters. This does not result in any vcds codes. I've removed the plugs and checked the gaps - all ok. Checked for a spark on two of the plugs whilst out and on the coil pack, which were good. I can hear the tank fuel pump running, can smell fuel after trying to start it, and vcds shows the fuel high pressure actual and specified values to be similar (~14-15MPa). Fuses in the engine fuse box also checked. I'm not sure what to do next? Is there a way to check if the injectors are delivering enough fuel? I thought maybe crank sensor, but would expect this to throw a code? Any suggestions gratefully received.

If you have Fuel, Air, Spark, Timing and compression it must run so one is missing and I suspect the crank speed sender G28 is not sending a pulse to the ECU and yes this often doesn't leave a fault code. Go into measuring blocks, find RPM and crank the engine over to see what the value is.

Thanks Crasher. I've tried that and engine rpm shows when cranking between 300 and 350+rpm so I guess the speed sensor is ok. There were a couple of splutters but nothing sustained. I removed the plugs to check them after repeated cranking and they were damp with fuel.

Update. Having searched online I noted a suggestion to a throttle body allignment which I did. After this the car did eventually start and now seems fine. I don't really know why, but hopefully it's now fixed! Thanks.

That's an odd one, noted and well found.
