    Hi,

helping out a friend with a long crank problem on his Octavia with the CFHC engine, usually first thing in the morning but not always. Glow plugs and battery recently replaced. Always starts eventually. Scanned it and found the following:

    4113 - Camshaft Position Sensor (G40)
    P0341 00 [096] - Implausible Signal
Intermittent - Not Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear

    4114 - Camshaft Position Sensor (G40)
    P3007 00 [104] - No Signal
Intermittent - Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear

I'm looking to replace the G40 camshaft position sensor for him. According to Elsa, the timing belt needs to be removed, is this really the case? I'm sure I've heard of people replacing it without so much dismantling.

Anyone got any experience of this?

    Thanks!

Unusual to see implausible and no signal codes. It is quite rare for the G40 to fail. With the few I have done I don’t think I could have done it without removing the sprocket hub. Part number 03L 957 147 A and £73.20 retail genuine; buy cheap, buy twice AND fit twice.

    Thanks Crasher.

Reason I'm asking about not removing the timing belt is that I'll be doing this job at a friend's house without a decent set of tools available, or the ability to jack the car up.

The method I'd heard was to cut the wires between the sensor and plug. Of course you also need to cut the wiring and splice it back together again on the new sensor but I'm pretty confident I could do that in an effective/durable way.

The freeze frame from a YT video below shows what I think is the the sensor, unfortunately I don't have a car with a similar engine available to me to check so I can't be sure. My thinking is to just remove the timing belt cover, undo the hold down bolt, cut the wiring, then feed the new wiring through, splice it together then bolt back down.

    Am I bonkers?!

Hey, did you ever get round to checking this? Got a genuine sensor and looking to do the job over the weekend, thanks.
